The talking-head just corrected himself. The EP-3 had no *airspeed* indicator, not no *altitude* indicator. That's trading one critical problem for another--with no airspeed indicator, you have no reliable way of telling your speed, which is essential for being able to time the landing properly (so that you stall out just as you hit the water).
