CADET

Version 1.0

This version of CADET has been tested but may still have some bugs lurking around. CADET started as a personal project when I started playtesting Crimson Skies. It is not a polished program, it is more functional than attractive.

System Requirements

Pentium or compatible
Windows 95/98
Mouse
Keyboard

As far as I know CADET has only been tested on systems using the Intel Pentium (tm) processor. There should be no reason why it wouldn't work with any of the pentium clones.

Known Problems

CADET was designed to run at resolutions of 1024 x 768 or higher. CADET has special code to help cope with a resolution of 800 x 600, but does not work well with 640 x 480. It can be used but you will not be able to see all the controls at the same time at this resolution.

If CADET crashes while you are printing it may be related to the printer driver. This does not happen often and I am looking into it. If you do crash please send your printer name and driver info to webmaster@crimsonskies.com. The crashes will not occur if you print out planes that use tractor props and have no turrets.

Using CADET

CADET is really three editors. A plane editor which is the main screen and a weapon loadout editor and pilot editor which are accessed via the toolbar or menu. The plane editor is designed to allow the user to adjust any value at any time. All the other values will change accordingly. When a value becomes illegal it will turn red. Planes that are not legal cannot be printed.

CADET saves the non-book manufacturing company names in a text file named "man.lst". You can remove or add names by editing this file in any text editor.

The loadout editor creates custom weapon loadouts, that include gun ammunition types and rocket types. This allows the user to quickly print a record sheet with any variant he's created for that plane. The loadouts are saved in the current plane's data file. You cannnot use a loadout from one plane on another without remaking that loadout for the second plane.

If you change a planes weapon hardpoints, the previously made loadouts will no longer match the plane. I have not thought of a satisfactory way of doing this other than deleting any invalid loadouts. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The pilot editor allows you to create new pilots as well as track the experience for those you've already made.

If you want to enter a pilot in that has already flown on several missions, the best way is to put a few thousand experience points in the Current Experience box, set the proper ability scores and then set the current experience to the value it should be.
