Actually, this is a very sensible thing to do. Any weapon you're
potentially going to depend upon ought be tested in the most adverse
conditions you're likely to face. If you're a cop, for instance, then yes,
it's conceivable that you'd need a weapon after rolling around in a muddy
field with a perp for ten minutes. So it makes sense to test your sidearm
under those conditions to see whether it's dependable or not.
