Urban myth states that the .50BMG round was developed
as an anti-tank round (true) and that it is still
considered as such. The story then tells how it is
against the convention to use an anti-tank weapon
against personnel. However, it is ok to use such a
weapon against equipment/material. Sooooooo....
according to the tale, if you are a tank gunner firing
a .50 at people and ever asked or queried about your
actions, you have to claim to have been firing to
damage the equipment (webbing) and then it's perfectly
legal and ok. Total nosense of course.
