Those kinds of early air-to-air rockets were later developed into the 70 mm
FFAR air-to-ground rockets, BTW (there was also apparently an A-4 Skyhawk
that shot down a MiG with a 12.7 cm Zuni rocket in Vietnam, but that's a
much smaller aircraft than a 767). At any rate, for shooting down the
Soviet bombers in the 1950s, the US actually developed nuclear air-to-air
missiles.
