       Originally i believe, the F-89 scorpion was armed with about 50 
UNGUIDED rockets to shoot down a Bear bomber....not very effective.
       Again, i reiterate, a missile WILL BRING DOWN a jetliner or large 
bomber if it hits a good spot, maybe two would be needed....however, most 
times it will blow off an engine pod, or a peice of wing, or some of the tail 
surfaces.....which will not seriously change the amouont of destruction, just 
the place it hits.  And as for the bombers, most times the shootdown would be 
over water or predominatly unoccupied areas.
