RE: Taliban prepared to give up bin Laden?

The scary thing about the whole bin Laden thing is that by pursuing him you
risk turning him into a martyr. Those who shelter and support him already
believe he is 'right' in what he does (otherwise, why support him?) and so
any action taken against him will further justify his / their cause in their
eyes.

This whole thing is a Catch 22 of enormous proportions. Whilst Dubble-Yuh
Bush has the admirable goal of extinguishing the threat of terrorism on this
scale from the world by going to war against it, he has set himself a
political goal that is unrealistic to achieve. The more you hunt down these
people, the more budding / wannabe bin Ladens you create. What's the answer?

Who says they'd find him guilty? These are the people sheltering him
because they feel he is akin to a saint for making so much personal
sacrifice (having limited assets frozen and moving to a new country) in the
course of jihad. He's been granted religious writs to assist in his
recruitment and to lend legitimacy to what he's doing on several occasions.
The Taliban's offer is meaningless -- now, if they offered to turn him over
to us the US might believe they were sincere.
