RE: Underwater Weapons

Very interesting reading!

I have one comment about the penetration ability of NATO specification ball
ammunition fired from a submerged (and properly modified) Glock-17. It says
that the ammunition will completely penetrate a minimum of one 1/2" pine
board at a distance of ten feet from the muzzle.

Doesn't that seem... incredibly weak???

Obviously, the tremendous slowing effect that water must have on a 9mm
bullet is causing it to have a substantially inferior penetration ability
compared with dry land firing. Which leads me to wonder, aren't there any
specialised underwater ammunition available? Perhaps with a smaller calibre,
more streamlined in shape (flechette-like) to reduce drag?

Regards,

Bill
