Varies from state to state.  Your best bet is to talk to a cop in your city
and ask what you need to do on your end to make sure the transfer is legal.
Your father needs to do likewise.  I suspect that it'll be as simple as
breaking down the musket as far as it'll reasonably go and FedExing it to
you--you can't send firearms through the US Mail, and FedEx requires that
weapons be at least partially disassembled for safety reasons--but you need
to talk to local law enforcement authority and make sure that you're
conformant with local law.
