The normal routine for transferring a firearm would be for you to go to a
local FFL holder and see what he'll charge you to receive a firearm for you
(normally about $25.00). Send his address to your dad then your dad would
find a local dealer in his area, take the firearm to the dealer and your
dad's dealer would mail it to your dealer. You would then pick the firearm
up at your dealer and fill out the proper forms.
Whether you can legally own this firearm depends on where you live but this
being a civil war era musket should make it legal in all but the most
leftist locales.
