Re: The Mob squad.....

1969:

Massive anti-Vietnam War demonstrations around the world. I attended one in
Rome, Italy, which completely surrounded the American Embassy. The local
Conservative newspaper had a banner headline in screaming type - "20 streets
in the hands of the Communists!" (Venti Stradi nei Mani Comunisti!).

Actually, it was a very peaceful event. Thousands of people attended, of
all ages, races, and nationalities. There were speakers, chanting, a few
crazies threw things (but you'll always have a few crazies) but otherwise no
incidents and very few arrests, for all the banner headlines the next day.

Of course, in an ME campaign things would be very different ... <G>

I understand there was also a demonstration in London that same week. If I
remember correctly (if you can remember the '60's, you weren't really there
... <G>) there was a World-wide Day of Protest connected with those
demonstrations.

I was busy writing my own (not very good) techno-thrillers about a
super-secret organization called only 'The Organization' at the time - if
you want to know more, get in touch with me off-list.
