Marines get a new anti-armor weapon

LOCKHEED MARTIN CORP. said the U.S. Marine Corps signed a $39 million
contract sending the shoulder-fired Predator anti-armor missile into
low-rate initial production. The contract, awarded Friday, calls for
delivery of 330 Predator assault weapons. Final assembly on the short-range
missile will be done at Lockheed's plant in Troy, Ala. Predator is a
portable, point-and-shoot system designed to defeat advanced armor targets,
such as tanks, at ranges from 17 meters to 600 meters. The system weighs
less than 22 pounds and is designed to hit tanks at their most vulnerable
point.
