Re: Amarican income?

It really depends on where you live

I think the current minimum wage (hourly) is $5.25
That is Federal law, however, in the City of San
Francisco the minimum wage is $11.00 an hour due to
the very high cost of living out there. A 1 room flat
 with a shared bath runs about $900 a month. I get a
t bedroom town home with a loft for $750 here in
Houston, TX.

Here in Houston

McDonalds and most fast food workes make about $5.25
to start.

Blockbuster Video pays CSR (clerks) 5.50 to 6 and hour
Assistant managers get about $7.50 to 8

Bank Clerks depending on experience $12-18 an hour

Radio Shack: 5.25/her plus 10% Commissions

Clothing Retail at a mall 7-8 an hour

Watiress/Waiter:
Casual Dining - 4-5/hour + tips
Formal dining 7-10/hr + tips

Gas Station 6/hr
Auto Mechanic 15-30/hr (depending on experience)
Admin Assistants 19,000-90,000 depending on experience
and level (Executive assistans make way more, but then
they are the one that really runs the men runnig the
company)

Federal workers are on a "GS" (Government Scale) pay
system go her for more info:
http://www.opm.gov/oca/01tables/GSannual/html/2001gs.htm

Local governments would depend on the job and how long
there. I'd reccomend trying to go to the Human
Resources page of that cities web site for pay scales.

Houston Teacher:
"HISD (Houston Independent School District) will be
introducing a new pay scale for the next school year,
but for 2000-2001, the district was paying $33,750 a
year for teachers with a bachelor's degree and no
experience."
