How about some opinions on what would be the best M1911 (Colt .45)
replica to purchase? Colts are expensive and just about everyone makes a
lookalike thats cheaper pricewise. I'm wondering about quality.
It will have a surefire light attached and be kept at the house for
"emergencies".

Springfield is top of the line.  You can also get a good range of
configurations straight from the factory, thought many will put you over the
price of a basic Colt.  If you can find the model that fills your needs and
fits your budget then you are going to get a very nice gun.

Para-Ordnance makes nice gun, but they are no cheaper then Colts and magazine
cost (for high capacities) is steep.

The Bul M5, if you can find one, is a nice gun.  If you are looking at high
capacity these are a lot cheaper the POs and almost as nice as Sprinfields.

Kimber has had QC problems with their MIM (Metal Injection Molding) parts.
Pretty large quantity of small broken parts; slide stops, sights, triggers,
etc.  No problems with the major components which are machined from Smith &
Wesson raw forgings (same as Springfield and Wilson).  Reports suggest QC is
getting better and if you get a good one then you have a nice pistol.

IAI (Israeli Arms international) imports some pretty good models.  Not the
highest level of finish, but solid and reliable.

The Wilson KZ-45 i a very nice gun, but you are looking at a grand.
