I would like to challenge one of MathesonT's figures
on the 408, though.  The round stays supersonic until
between 3300 and 3400 meters.

To quote from CheyTac's website, "The projectile goes transonic between 3300
(1.88 mile)
and 3400 yards (1.93 mile).  Adjusted to sea level, this would be
2700 yards plus.
We have preliminary evidence that the projectile do not
tumble after entering the subsonic range but instead, is still continue
rotate.  Hard data will be obtained at the US Army Yuma Proving Grounds."

It is common practice to record and report for sea level, so conversion is
all in one direction (unless shooting in Death Valley or the like).  Numbers
recorded at 5000 feet of elevation are much more impressive, but make for
more work to do accurate conversion.
