They haven't; there just aren't that many of them.  The FAA was actually
recruiting for the position sometime last year.  The job announcement was
on
the message boards at specialoperations.com and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson
(R-TX) confirmed on Fox News today that the program is still in place.  
Hopefully this incident will result in a huge expansion of the sky marshal
program.


There are currently approximately 60 Air Marshalls in service and they are
used almost exclusively on oversears flights to threat areas.
