Well, strictly speaking, they don't actually
discharge just because it's cold. It's just
that WHILE they're cold they can't produce
much power. Once they're warmed up they'll
be okay again. Regardless, the advice to
keep them warm if you're going to use them
anytime soon makes sense.
BTW, it's really hot temperatures that
make disposable batteries (not lead acid
batteries like in a car) discharge while
just sitting around unused.
