Re: What is the most common?

Generically - semiautomatic pistol. Generally conceallable and attracts a
lot less attraction from law enforcement than a matched set of purple
MP5K's.

Typically our house rule was each character was issued a starting package
including a cell standardized pistol, concealable body armor, tactical radio
and cell phone. With a house rule like that, everyone had a pistol they
could use. Typically it was something along the lines of a Glock 17/19 or
Sig-Sauer P226/228.

First purchased weapon was typically a Heckler and Koch MP-5 of some sort.

I went back and looked at the stack of characters from our games. The MP-5
and Glock 17/19/26 were definitely our most popular, with most characters
having one or both. Of the 23 characters I could find, 7 did not have one
or both. Most of our game play peaked around 1998/1999 RL, which probably
effected things.

> What weapon do you as a player do you use or buy first?

Depends on the background of the character.

Depends on the character. A couple characters have had an L7A1 GPMG or
M60's when their role in the military was as a section/squad machine gunner.
More recently, it's been squad automatics/automatic rifles. Given the
weight compromises required for 7.62 mm and the near total lack of
logistical support from BE/BE, 5.56 mm weapons such as the M249 (any) or
Ultimax make some sense. If the character has the background to understand
the tactical role of a LMG/MMG, they do occasionally spec them at the early
stages. If they don't really have the background to understand the role,
then no.

HMG? Not as a starting character. Chews up too much resources for the
trade offs. Later on, it's not as big of a deal.

Haven't had one yet...

> What about you people the legends of the game, I want to know?

Probably the weirdest gun was "Josephina", a chrome plated Tarus PT-92 with
gold accents, a wicked three port compensator and ivory grips. It matched
the owner, Sergio, who the rest of the cell generally thought was either a
drug dealer, a pimp or both.

A comment that should probably be mentioned is that there is a wide variety
of weapons permissivity in different games. I've seen anything from
'pistols are the limit' to characters with armed Mi-24's. In some games,
the starting equipment was rigidly controlled based on background, while in
other games the starting budget was largely spent with L&P's cooperation.
In a game where the characters could not spend their initial allocation at
L&P, generally no one has an automatic weapon (most places don't let you
walk with them without contacting CID). In that case, handguns and shotguns
(i.e. anything that can be picked up at a KMart Blue Light special) were the
norm.
