Re: New BE office justifications
The biggest problem with
Malaysia is that it has a very large Muslim population. I do not know the
faction, and there is little in the way of fundamentalism there. And I
doubt that it is high on the list of WIJ.
Singapore is a lovely place to
visit and do business (I spent a week there and several coworkers have spent
several months there), very clean, friendly people, and safe enough to
wander around on foot, at night, alone (except in some very poor
neighborhoods), and English is the official language. However, there is a
long laundry list of social codes and the government is big on legislated
morality and censorship (print, movies, TV, internet/GenNet) and very
strict firearms laws. Not to mention the cost of living, a
1.6l Hyundai Sonata sedan costs about $45,000, this includes the road
and car taxes and license fees. The government runs a large
percentage of housing, the ethnic makeup of the population is enforce in the
population of the government housing.
Malaysia, is not as clean and
not as safe. It does have a large high tech industry base and
one of the largest petrochemical companies in the world, Petronas. The
infrastructure in Kuala Lumpur and the industrial cities of Panang and Johor
Baharu, is very good. The cost of living is not as high as in Singapore
and is actually quite reasonable.
The following is a personal
opinion and something I have been considering for my game world. An office
in South Africa. Rome can probably handle the work for Northern Africa and
the Med. However, I believe that South Africa alone would present enough
work for a small office in the future. For the same reason that Blackeagle
would open an office in Argentina (Miami operatives in Argentina and southern
Chile have a long supply and communication line). South Africa also has
fairly liberal (permissive) firearms laws right now (ME timeline, it could go
either way). South Africa is also the home to at least two professional
mercenary companies. A lively market for the services that BE/BE
offers. I would like to here your opinions on this issue. Am I just
fixated on a geographical region for no good reason or does this make
sense?
Thanks
