For a gaming perspective on this, play any RPG and let the GM keep track of
the wounds your character sustains without giving ou any indication
whatsoever of your wound state. Sometime in the middle of a firefight,
you'll be surprised when the GM tells you that your character just died
from a wound you didn't even know you had, and then goes on to tell you
that you took x more wounds over the previous y turns...
