attach a 24x scope to a barret.  the rules allow insanely high odds of head
hits at 1200 m with that particular bit of hardware.  That yields an
effective distance of 50m for range calcs.  the rules are rather simple for
scopes and lead to horribly improbable things.

yes, yes i know, but the "rules" don't adust for bullet drop from extreme
ranges....yes, a .50 bullet from a barret is "effective" to that range,
meaning that it still has enough energy to penetrate and damage, but the
bullet is not at the same height as wehn fired, over distances that bullet
drops.......each caliber and barrel combo is different, but you can make some
generic assumptions so as not to slow down combat.
What i am saying is that if you take a headshot with your barret at
1200m and hit perfect on target, then zoom back and take a headshot at a
different range, the point of impact can differ by as little as 1mm to as
large as 30cm.  Scopes are only as unbalancing as you let them be.

You and i know that shooting at long range is a dodgy business at the best of times.  How does bob the never held a gun before know this sort of thing.  It is never mentioned in the rules about any of the crap that affects shooting at long range.  Its just another of the things they blissfully ignored when putting the game together.
