I hang out with too many military guys. I was prevented from taking a
lieutenancy in the United States Marine Corps by having a bad back.

I have declined job offers with the National Security Agency (working on the
computer security side, not the intelligence-gathering side) and some other
U.S. agencies which I'm not going to mention. As a college student, I worked
on projects which were funded through the Defense Advanced Research Projects
Agency (DARPA). I am a sometime collaborator with a PhD candidate in
cryptography at UC-Davis; he, for his part, is a sometime employee of the
NSA. (He left Fort Meade to finish his PhD; he's hoping to go back there
once he's done.)

My father is a Federal Appellate Court judge, Judge David R. Hansen, who sits
on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. Needless to say, I'm terrified about
him, because he's in St. Louis right now and the newly-finished Federal
building in St. Louis would make a very tempting target.

I have never been on the payroll of any United States government agency. I
have been on the payroll of other agencies who were funded by the United
States government--for instance, my DARPA-funded work--but I have never been
employed by the U.S. government.

That is the extent of my affiliation with the United States government.
