RE: Airbus A400M

I'm not sure if there is a prototype, but the Germans may scuttle the deal.
If they don't clarify how they're going to pay for the 73 they're scheduled
to buy by the end of the month, the other nations are released from the
deal. It could have an impact on european soldier deployment in the future.
"Analysts fear that if the A400M project collapses, the deployment of
European soldiers by air will be left largely to the British and the French,
who could buy U.S. aircraft instead, benefiting Boeing Co BA.N and Lockheed
Martin Corp LMT.N." [Reuters, Jan. 25]

Anyone have any other good information about this new
plane?

I've already been to http://www.airbus-military.com
but everything is computer generated. Am I assuming
correctly in the fact that they've never built one of
these things yet? Do they not have a working
prototype?

If not, I think there is a huge difference in how the
US military procures equipment compared to the
Europeans. Isn't this like buying site-unseen?
