new toy: F2000 MAWS 5.56mm

Fabrique National from Belgium has developed a new assault rifle, the 
F2000
MAWS (modular assault weapon system). This is a lightweight, 
well-balanced
bullpup rifle that is easy to cary, handle and use, including by
left-handers. Several design features from the FN P90 5.7mm are 
carried over
to the F2000. The basic rifle has a weight of 3.5 kg with empty 
magazine and
a length of 694 mm. The forward hand grip can be easily removed to be
replaced by a 40mm grenade launcher, also developed by FN. Fore more
accuracy when firing the grenade launcher, the weapon can be equiped 
with a
simple, soldier-proof fire control system. Other optional equipment 
include
target indicators, tactical white lights (integrated in a modified 
fore grip
or within the front of the optical housing), night vision devices, a 
folding
bipod and a bayonet. The components are fully integrated and can be 
changed
around by the user in the field.
F2000 development is fully complete. The production version with the 
grenade
FCS should be ready within a further two years.
