Could you give an example or two of 'difficult to reload'
weapons?

The FN P90 with its top mounted magazine that fits under the site unit.
The AN-94 with a magazine that angles to the right is hard for right hand
shooters to load without using the firing hand.
The G-11 because of the front loaded magazines
The Striker/Protecta 12 gauge because of the funky revolver action
Most belt fed guns because of the feed tray cover and need to get the rounds
properly aligned.

What are your thoughts on the two-magazines-taped-together

Certainly faster to reload, but has to be an increased chance of malfunction.
Half the time of a standard reload, but double the chance of malfunction
unless precautions are taken.

There is a device for M16 family weapons that mechanically attaches to the
left side of the magazine well.  You fit a second magazine into it, which as
protected from elements and dings as the first magazine.  The magazine
release frees both magazines allowing for fast safe reloads.  From Ciener if
I remember right.
