I find it worse where a character is concieved as
almost an 'alter ego' and just gets stupidly hard over
the course of a few novels. Clancy is the worst
criminal for this... from analyst to president. The
central character starts off as a really good 'flawed
hero', but eventually becomes a deity. Chevez and his
partner get introduced in later books so there can be
some more 'in the front lines' characters who the
reader can cheer for, but they too get over-inflated
in the course of time. Clancy used to rock. Now  won't
touch the drivel.

Oh, 'Tin Man' kind of annoyed me as well. the suit
would have been almost believable if not for the 'jump
jets' - they spoiled a lot of the book in my eyes.
